If you’ve never heard of Westfield, Indiana, you may have been living under a rock. A Shamrock, perhaps?
Westfield is a small city that lies due north of Indianapolis. We have recently been named Family Circle’s Best Place for Families and frequently appear on lists for top cities to live. Westfield has Quaker roots, serious history, and it rocks. Westfield, Indiana is home to the Shamrocks, but locals simply call them the Rocks.
The name extends to nearly everything Westfield schools have to offer.
Older kids can finish homework at school, during Rock Time. Weekly take-home notes are called Rock Reports. The sports’ teams fall under Rocks Athletics. Our son was on the Dance Rocks team. Our daughter plays in the Rock Pride band.
The online summer program is Summer R.O.C.K.S. — a made-up acronym for Review Online Core K12 Standards that may be a bit of a stretch. Even the city gets into the name when we celebrate Independence Day in style at Westfield Rocks the 4th. We rock the arts. We rock sports. We rock all over town.
Basically, everything “rocks” around here. There are businesses with rocks in the name. I have truly never lived in a town that embraces the team name so thoroughly. So, the next time someone asks if you’re familiar with our town, you can say, “Oh, I’ve heard Westfield really rocks.”
And if for some reason, we aren’t totally rocking, I can promise you we’re still just Grand.
